OUR PARTNERSHIP IN KANSAS CITY, USA
STORY & INSPIRATION
Jordan Fox, Founder / Owner of Foxtrot Studio, a creative studio located in Kansas City, USA that began in 2015 to focus on providing well-made products that fit seamlessly into your everyday life. It all began from necessity - by replacing a broken department store belt. Through determination to make something that lasts much longer, the story started to unfold. After creating a belt that worked, looked good, and was made out of a real, gorgeous material, he began to understand the value of creating something beautiful and useful using his own two hands. From there, he set out to create more products that could bring value into our lives.
Craftsmanship & Leather Sourcing
Foxtrot Studio believes in making and owning (few) things that last, that fit seamlessly into your life, that work hard and look great. That’s why they take their time through the design and testing process so their products stand up to daily wear. I all starts with strong partnerships and that's why the materials are sourced from respected leather tanneries and textile mills.
The effort to go just a little further with the quality of materials and sources, even when it feels like something is "good enough" is what makes the process worth it.
Leathers are sourced from tanneries located on Midwest river towns where the boom of agricultural and industrial activity necessitated their existence to provide a durable product.
Currently, the main line of products created from leather by Foxtrot Studio come from Thoroughbred, a historic tannery located in Louisville, Kentucky USA, providing the highest quality and ethically produced full grain leather.
Leather is renewable as raw material and if leather was not produced, the replacement for it would have to be, at large, synthetic materials obtained from non-renewable resources. Leather products are also long-lasting and repairable, giving them a long lifespan. It’s made from a by-product of the food industry and if this by-product were not converted into leather, it would be thrown into a landfill, causing environmental risk. Additionally, Foxtrot Studio uses one type of leather: first quality, full grain, vegetable tanned leather direct from tanneries. Vegetable tanning is an age-old process of introducing natural fibers found in plant species called tannins to slowly condition the leather over the process of one month to several months.
"For Foxtrot, the values that make the brand must be apparent. Design, ethical sourcing, transparency, community - we take all these into careful consideration. If a product we make or carry doesn't hold these dear and integral, it doesn't become a part of our brand. My hope is that these things we believe in, whether it's our product or the ideals we hold true, might eventually share company with you in your daily life. " -Jordan Fox
